Morning Contemplation, Prayer, & Chant with Carl Woolf by Carol K. Goldman Every Tuesday, I gather with a small group for an extended period of silence followed by a contemplative celebration of the weekday morning service. I find that starting my Tuesday mornings with liturgy, chant, movement, and teachings opens me to awe and gratitude for the rest of the week. I especially resonate to the standing kabbalistic "four-Worlds” movement meditation that the group explores on a regular basis. As I go through the repetitive flowing sequence of "Chi Gung" like movements, I have a chance to check in with the energy in my own body and integrate my own inner "four worlds". As I do the movement, I hold my hands a few inches from the designated areas of my body that I associate with the four worlds: belly (assiyah -- physical being, body, breath); chest (y'tzirah -- emotions, feelings); head (b'ri'ah -- thoughts, mind, intellect); and the area above my head and surrounding my body (atzilut- essence, higher self, inner self, spirit). As I pass my hands over these areas starting from my roots in the earth beneath me, I feel the pull of energy between the palms of my hands and the part of my body that corresponds to each world. As I move my hands up the front of my body and then above my head, I move that energy up through my physical being to my higher self and the infinite expanse of the universe, the world and planets above and outside me. Individuals with all levels of meditation experience are welcome. See Newton Corner, Tuesday Morning Contemplation, Prayer, & Chant |
